the fine print, kept short

your privacy

you can read everything here without an account, and nothing on this site sells or shares what it keeps. if you do sign in, this is exactly what happens to your stuff.

if you just visit

  • no ads, no trackers, no analytics, no cookies that follow you around. the site itself loads no ad or tracking scripts. the embeds below are the only third parties.
  • your browser remembers night or day kitchen on your own device (local storage), so the page looks right next time. it never leaves your device.
  • the site runs on Cloudflare. like any host, it sees your address and your browser’s details when you load a page, and keeps short-lived request logs to run and protect the site. i don’t read them for anything about you.
  • if you chat on Twitch or Kick, your messages show in chat on this site even if you never visit it. they live only in the chat room’s memory, are never saved to a database and are not logged. they’re gone within 24 hours, sooner if Twitch or Kick removes them.
  • the Twitch player (stream pages) and Spotify players (music pages) are embeds from Twitch and Spotify. when a page with one loads, they get your address and browser’s details and follow their own privacy rules, not this page.

if you sign in

signing in is optional and only needed for site chat and your profile. here’s everything kept, and for how long.

who you are

your provider (Twitch, Kick or Discord), your id and display name there, and which permissions the provider said it gave the site. no email, no password, no provider token.

kept: until you delete your account or unlink that sign-in.

your account

a random id, which sign-in is your default, and when it was made.

kept: until you delete your account.

sessions

a scrambled (hashed) copy of the cookie that keeps you signed in, which provider opened it, and when it ends. the cookie itself is only on your device.

kept: 30 days, or until you sign out, sign out everywhere or delete your account.

site chat messages

your name, what you wrote, whether you were me or a mod at the time, who you replied to, and when.

kept: 30 days, sooner if a mod removes a message or you delete your account.

bans

who was banned, why, until when, and the kind of account that set it (me or a mod). no copies of messages.

kept: until it’s lifted or runs out, or you delete your account. see the next section for the one exception.

mods

that your account is a mod, and when that began.

kept: until it’s removed or you delete your account.

community ideas

the idea you typed, your display name and when. it stays private until a mod approves it. the name is a copy of the one you had when you posted, so unlinking a sign-in doesn’t change it.

kept: if a mod hides it, it’s hidden from everyone but not erased. it’s deleted when you delete your account (not when you unlink a sign-in).

discord role

(once Discord linking is turned on) if you link a Discord id, the site can read which roles you have in the server and add a “linked” role to you. nothing else is read from your server, and the site never posts as you.

kept: the “linked” role is removed when you unlink Discord or delete your account.

idea votes

which ideas your account voted for.

kept: until you delete your account.

dish ratings

your star rating for each dish you rated, and when.

kept: until you delete your account.

leaderboard opt-out

that you asked to be left off the chatter leaderboards.

kept: until you turn it off or delete your account.

your address is also used to slow down anyone hammering the sign-in or chat doors. sign-in counts are kept for a minute at most. the chat join limit also tags your open chat connection with a hashed copy of your address for as long as that connection stays open, which is an hour at most. an address has few possible values, so a hash is not strong protection by itself: treat it as kept, not erased, until the connection closes.

one thing kept after you delete

if you’re banned from site chat, a keyed, scrambled (hashed) version of your Twitch, Kick or Discord id is kept, along with the account it was set on (a random id, not your name), whether i or a mod set it, when, and until when (a permanent ban has no end date). the hash uses a secret held only by the chat server, so guessing ids doesn’t reveal it, but it still points back to the same person on purpose. it exists so deleting your account and signing up again doesn’t undo a ban. it goes when the ban is lifted or ends. if you were never banned, nothing like this exists.

deleting your account does not remove this record. the account, sign-ins, sessions and messages go; the scrambled ban record stays until the ban ends or is lifted.

what i never do

  • post anything as you, except when you, as a mod, press send; the token is used once and isn’t kept.
  • ask for your email, password, real name or phone number.
  • show your messages anywhere but chat, or your account to other viewers beyond the name you chat under.

deleting it

on your profile, hit “Delete my account”, then confirm. that one step removes your account, every linked sign-in, all your sessions, your site chat messages, your mod role, your site ban (not the scrambled ban record above), your community ideas, idea votes, dish ratings and leaderboard opt-out, and the “linked” Discord role, and clears your name from other people’s replies. it happens right away and can’t be undone.

“Sign out everywhere” ends every session without deleting anything. unlinking a sign-in removes just that one.

can’t sign in, or something looks wrong? ask in the Discord, or on stream, and i’ll sort it.

this page changes whenever what’s kept changes.
